DISCOUNTS- HEADS UP FOR NEXT SEASON

me- Jay- Valentine's day last year   photo-The Giant

So most mountains sell discounted passes during the fall. Here are some deals and deadlines if you need to save for a bit;  I never have piles of money lying around.

Sun Valley:
So the season pass is a fortune $1,549 (you need to go 23 days to break even), but there are some sweet deals in here: http://www.sunvalley.com/tickets/passes/. I got the early/late last year, and it rocked. The best deals need to be purchased before 9/5/11.

Jackson:
Jackson's season is Nov. 26th- April 8th (135 days) so if you hit the hill 100 times it's like $12 a day with a $1,195 season pass- no working allowed (nineteen days to break even) But seriously, they have sweet college deals (Mary). http://www.jacksonhole.com/season-pass.html

Jay Peak:
My east coast fav. The Season Pass is $649 until Oct. 11th. Tickets are $69 so you need to go 10 times to break even. http://www.jaypeakresort.com/#/skiing_riding/rates_hours/season_passes/

Targhee:
It's $599 (9 days to break even) for a season pass before 9/11/2011. It's $249 for a college pass (Mary- four times to break even). http://www.grandtarghee.com/the-mountain/rates/season-passes.php

Killington:
Their midweek pass is $499 until 10/13/2011. Their lift tickets are $69 so you need to go 8 times during the week to break even. http://www.killington.com/winter/plan/tickets_and_cards/comparison_chart/index.html

Hunter:
A season pass is $849 before 10/15/2011 (http://www.huntermtn.com/huntermtn/tickets-passes/season-passes.aspx). That's 13 days to break even. But the midweek is $299, only five times to break even.

Pomerelle:
A season pass is $316.94 with tax. http://www.pomerelle-mtn.com/lift-rates/season-passes/index.htm
That's nine times to break even. This deal is good until Sept. 20th.

Breck, Vail, Beaver, Keystone, Heavenly, Northstar, and A-Basin:
The amazing epic pass is $649 and gives you unlimited access to all of these resorts. There isn't a deadline on the website, but I know you can't get this deal after the season starts. http://www.breckenridge.com/plan-a-trip/season-passes/season-passes-explorer.aspx?page=viewall Every time I see this deal I can't understand why I don't live there.

Ok, that's where I know I'm going next season- so that's all that matters- Ahahahahah
not really, I'll do more next Fri.

DISCOUNTS AND DEMOS- A REASON TO DO STUFF

the Gypsy

It was the last Burton Demo day at Hunter so the Gypsy and I decided to demo a board we would never own.

The Method

the Method is Burton's $1,500 snowboard (yeah, there's a $1,500 snowboard- shake head in shame). It's a directional with an Alumafly core (looks like an aluminum honey comb, makes it über light, big no for rails). It's got carbon i-beam and fiberglass. It has UltraMeth Construction which I think means that they smoke Meth while they think up prices.

Paul
 Paul was working the Yurts
He gave the Gypsy a 156 and me a 160. The Gypsy rides a 149 and I ride a 156; we decided to go big.

We hiked out of bounds and rode down a creek. We might have hit some things; that board is like a magnet.

the creek

Gymnast Gypsy

Consensus:  excellent for creek riding!!!!!! and its shiny like a rainbow trout

ELEVATED LOCAL- MARK GETS YOU TUNED

APR´ES IN NEW YORK

Mark has been hosting an apr´es on the Upper East side for three seasons. He used to ride with hard boots and bindings and race, so he appreciates a properly waxed board.

Here's the deal: Go to Bailey's Corner Pub (85th and York- www.facebook.com/baileyscorner) at 2 AM- 4 AM on Saturday or Sunday morning, bring your board or skis and bring an old lift ticket. The lift ticket gets you a 2 for 1 drink special (for the whole ski season).
Then give Mark $25 and he will tune your board or skis and give you a PBR tall boy.

Then get on the Emilos bus (85th and York- http://www.emiliosskishop.com/index.html) that goes to Hunter, Okemo, Mt. Snow, Stratton, or Windham. Or get on the Homage bus (86th and York- http://www.homagebrooklyn.com/) that goes to Hunter, Mt Snow, Okemo, or Stratton. Go to sleep, and wake up on the hill, and go ride your freshly waxed equiptment.

If you want a more traditional Aprés go to Bailey's on Tues. from 7 PM- 9PM. It's the same deal on Tues, but they also feed you. I had a banging pulled pork sandwich. I have also heard that they have a corned beef master in the house.

Mark is also a photographer (www.facebook.com/sweeneymarkd). These lovely ladies are his. He shoots in the studio and in the snow. You can find him at Hunter ripping big turns.

ELEVATED LOCAL- RYAN ZIMMERMAN from elisabeth toft on Vimeo.

Ryan grew up in Michigan riding a small local hill called Mt. Holiday. He's a freelance photographer- http://stopdownphotography.com/. He edited this video and Yuko's video. He spends most of his time terrorizing the streets of Brooklyn with a lens and a deck.
He is known for his extremely swollen ankles...
