ELEVATED LOCAL- GABRIEL EMBLER

GABE

Self proclaimed rock head, Gabriel Embler blew out of central Washington for Germany after high school. The plan was to soak in the Alps for a season, that season lasted three years.  Gabe initially landed a gig in a pizza shop working for AFRC. Noticing the need for a little nightlife while living with 400 coworkers in a renovated hospital building he opened a bar, The Loft, at the top of Garmisch, Germany and started making dreams come true.

Turtle Bowl

Still hooked on high country living, Gabe returned stateside and settled in Ketchum, Idaho. Drawing inspiration from the Boulders, Pioneers, and Sawtooth mountain ranges he began to explore stone sculpturing. Scavenging stones from riverbeds to mountain peaks his work ranges from functional, practical works you need around the house to abstract pieces that I have been known to stare at for hours. (http://gabrielemblerstonesculpture.com/)

Women and Wine

The winter for Gabe is filled with Sun Valley laps and glasses of Guinness. Summer is filled with frisbee golf games and glasses of Guinness.  I made the mistake of bringing him Budweiser for the interview. (really, Small Brain Problem is a medical disease!) Some might call him a Hippie. If the frisbee golf playing wasn’t a tip off, he also follows Phish around the county.  Gabe knows how to stay elevated and can cut a mean rock.

JEREMY JONES "FURTHER" PARTY

"I went to go visit my brother in Jackson with dreams of being a pro snowboarder. I left wanting to be a dishwasher and ride the mountain everyday"

Jeremy Jones' Further Trailer - Teton Gravity Research's 2012 HD Snowboard Film from Teton Gravity Research on Vimeo.

As some of you know- he's my total favorite and I have been known to stalk him in New York and Wyoming. Not really in a serial killer stalking manner, but more like a 16 year old girl stalking manner. You know; I talk about him like I know him calling him Jeremy instead of Mr. Jones, I ride after him in Targhee and then hide and giggle uncontrollably when he turns around, I make stuff with his hair. You know, normal stuff.

So (thanks to Yuko) I was there when Jeremy showed some pieces of his upcoming film "Further" (http://www.tetongravity.com/further/) and spoke at the Patagonia Store in SOHO.  We saw some beautiful footage from Japan and Wyoming. Jeremy talked about his experiences and how important it is to respect the mountain. "Further" is promised to be an extension of "Deeper" (http://www.tetongravity.com/deeper/ and  http://elevatedlocals.blogspot.com/2010/12/jeremy-jones-deeper-teton-gravity.html). Massive mountains with little human contact. Split boards and skinning. Beautiful drool inducing lines.
I can't wait.

Jones Snowboards made a 154 and a 158 split board this year (http://jonessnowboards.com/) and women's split boards are on their way. Come on fatties- lets hike.

Thanks POW (http://protectourwinters.org/) partners Alomos for the wine (which enabled us to do this later http://images.welovephotobooths.com/kidrobot/h35116304#h231ea0e3). Alomos is giving away memberships to POW with a keyword (http://protectourwinters.org/were-proud-to-announce-a-partnership-with-alamos-wines/) to the first 1,000 people. I tried to sign up- but I couldn't figure it out (small brain problem).

Jeremy does a lot of stuff, a lot of quality stuff, so show your support- http://www.jeremyjones.net/

NEW YORK- SANY GOLD PASS
This pass is super cool. The way I understand it, the pass is good for one lift ticket a day at any of these New York hills. There are no blackout dates. I think you can also let a friend use it when you are stuck at work. What? Amazing. It's a G, that's crazy- you could split the pass with someone you hate- someone you never want to ride with and you could ride all season for $500! Here are the mountains for the SANY Gold pass: Hunter (http://elevatedlocals.blogspot.com/2011/01/hunter-mountain.html), Windham (http://www.windhammountain.com/?season=winter), Whiteface (http://www.whiteface.com/), Gore (http://www.goremountain.com/), Plattekill (http://www.plattekill.com/winter/), Tuxedo Ridge (http://www.tuxedoridge.com/), Belleayre (http://www.belleayre.com/), Thunder Ridge (http://thunderridgeski.com/), Mount Peter (http://mtpeter.com/), Catamount (http://www.catamountski.com/), West Mountain (http://www.skiwestmountain.com/), and Greek Peak (http://www.greekpeak.net/). This pass might also be good for all New York hills, but I only listed the ones on the poster. These passes are limited here is the link to buy- http://www.skiandrideny.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17:iskiny-gold-pass&catid=1&Itemid=19 but you might want to call because there I'm not quite sure about the rules (315-696-6550).

BRIDGER BOWL- MT
Oh man, do I want to go to here; the stories I hear about this place make me drool. These season pass deals are good until 10/11/11. (https://store.bridgerbowl.com/passes/) A Season Pass is $580 (13 times to break even).  Or you can get a Ten Time Pass for $350 ($35 a ticket); this pass is non-transferable. A Midweek Pass is $375 (eight times to break even) and you can ski for $39 a day on the weekend. If you are a MSU student you can get a Student Ride Card for $30 and then get $39 tickets for the rest of the season. You could also get an Adult Legend Card for $35 and then get $39 tickets for the rest of the year.

MT HOOD- OR
MMMMMMMM- Hood. After 11/6/11 the Season pass goes up $500! Until then it is $499 (That is only seven days of riding to break even!).  A ten day pass is $379 ($38 a ticket). http://www.skihood.com/Store
