It's Premiere season for snow films. If you're in the city here are some upcoming events:
Tonight (11/18/11) is the last night of the Snow Film Festival. http://www.snowfilmfestnyc.com/
"Solitaire" is at 8 PM. "All I Can" and "The Ordindary Skier" are at 10 PM. All the films are at Nighthawk Cinemas (136 Metropolitan Ave. Brooklyn). Tickets are $15 online. The cats that throw this film festival are pretty rad, so come out and support.

TGR's "One For the Road" is Sat. (11/12/11). It's at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square (tourist killing grounds). If you buy tickets at the theater it's $19.99 (online is like $13 more) and you get tickets to Killington. http://www.tetongravity.com/one-for-the-road/

Warren Miller's ...Like There's No Tomorrow from Scalive on Vimeo.

The new Warren Miller is next Sat. (11/19/11). It's on Broadway and 95th at the Symphony Space. There are two showings. 6 PM and 9 PM. http://www.chestnutmtnproductions.com/warren_miller/warren_miller_nyc.htm

MY MECCA- SUN VALLEY

me in the ganj
First resort in America. Known for it's gorgeous sunny days. Warren Miller started here, living in the parking lot of River Run. All the old school film stars came here to ski and make movies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFfzbZKMdmU). It's a place of great history. It's also a place of great rippers, not only do many infamous skiers come from here and train here, the locals are phenomenal. I mean phenomenal, they just rip- and they always have (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP3wU677tcg).

Andy- Siegfried's line

Sun Valley is in Idaho. Bald Mountain (the main hill) is in the Smokys in the Sawtooth National Forrest.  This resort started out on Dollar  mountain.  Dollar is now Sun Valley's bunny hill. There is also a big boy terrain park on Dollar.  Here is the most recent TWS photo shoot at dollar-(http://snowboarding.transworld.net/1000151579/featuresobf/sun-valley-park-sessions-preview-with-aguirre-hironaka-kotsenburg-bros-willet/). Dollar is treeless and a great teaching hill.

The leg killer- Baldy. You come to Baldy to get strong. The summit is 9,150 ft. The vert is 3,400 ft. This hill is steep, blue runs here are east coast double blacks. The River Run side of Baldy has a great glass elevator (ganjula) that will take you to the old famous roundhouse. From there you can shoot up to the top on the Christmas quad or you can head over to Seattle Ridge. Seattle Ridge is the calm part of Baldy. The runs are short and not as steep. From the top of Baldy you can drop into the bowls or you can get to the bowls from Seattle. I love, love, love the bowls. The Mayday triple will keep you in the bowls. The Lookout express lift will give you access to all off the River Run side. Frenchman's quad is lower and in between River Run and Warm Springs. Warm Springs actually has a hot springs that you ride over on the chair lift. The halfpipe is on Warm Springs and they race a lot on Warm Springs. They also run a lot of gates off of the Greyhawk quad.

I  was in Sun Valley for three and a half weeks riding every day with my ski instructor bro. My legs are like anacondas. Spending so much time on the mountain lets you see the real ski fiends. There are locals that ski everyday. There are locals that ski in between beers. There are locals that only ski in the sun. There are locals that ski bell to bell.  Everyone has a different way of looking at the mountain.

This place is paradise.

snow films

Some snow films to take a look at:

Seen at the Snow Film Festival (http://www.snowfilmfestnyc.com)
"Work It Out" (http://www.meatheadfilms.com).
"Work It Out" won the Snow Film Festival's viewers choice. In "Work It Out" the Meatheads are east coast cats showing some east coast style all over the...... East. The Meatheads really show how much the East has to offer. They show footage from Canada, VT, NH, ME, and Japan. Plus they show everyone's fav. NEW JERSEY. There are some killer urban lines in this flick, they go to DC in a blizzard and build a hit right in front of the Washington Monument. Who does that! I love to see the Meatheads go so hard about the east. When I first moved to the city, eight years ago- I thought the east didn't have real mountains and the snow was all ice. Basically, I deserved to have my face smashed. I, now love riding the East. It definitely makes you a better rider. I love the tight trees, the hard snow, and the freezing temps. When I go back to Sun Valley I hear people whine, "It's iccccccy." I turn around and say, "Bitch, ice is blue."
Forum's "F*ck It" (http://vimeo.com/user611720)
The Forum team always goes big. I was sad not to see Peter Line. He is Forum. John Jackson's clips were amazing. The film was massively silly and an altogether good time. oh yeah, and Sun Valley was in it.

Seen uptown:
Wintervention (http://www.skinet.com/warrenmiller/)
I'm always stoked on Warren Miller films because he started out in the River Run Parking lot in Sun Valley, sleeping in his van down by the river. Warren Miller sold his company years ago, but the house is still putting on stellar films year after year.
Wintervention takes you all over the world with addicts as your hosts. Addicts jonesin for that next line.
They start off big in Antarctica skiing what seems like 90 degree pitches on glaciers. One fall and they are in the ocean.
They go to Georgia, which used to be a part of the soviet Union and is an untouched paradise. The New Zealand World Heli Challenge is covered by these addicts. This contest is insane, riders and skiers pick lines way above the treeline and try to "impress" the judges.
My favorite line is in Southern Utah. Reggie Crist drops this palpating chute with the greatest of ease.
The Alaska segment shows dreamlike ranges and turns.
The film ends in Norway 500 miles from the North Pole with the addicts skiing all hours where the Sun never sets.
Wintervention left me itching for snow (its almost time for me to leave Brooklyn) with visions of future lines and mountains dancing in my head .
